My street

Over half the houses for two blocks have the same wrought-iron fence seen on the left. In the 1920's when many were built there was a iron foundry and fence company that everyone seemed to have used. Apparently sections of the fence and particularly the gates are used for decoration of some sort, because 12 or so years ago one morning people woke up to find their gates gone. Some turned up as far away as LA in antique shops.

The depressing part of the picture to me is that the next two months, March and April, are historically our snowiest months. It's been snowing now for the last 6 days, yesterday it only stopped for 2 hours before resuming.

On the upside, it's warmer than a couple weeks ago, a balmy 18f on the back porch.

  1. My street looked like that about 5 days ago, but it is now 46F, and rain over the weekend melted most of what there had been. Not positive, but I think the winter aconite will bloom tomorrow.

    Stay warm, friend!

    1. Thanks Marth
The snow has stopped for a day at least, but now it's -17. I guess it's not nearly over yet.

    1. One of the daughters reports that the crocus are up in Seattle, maybe it'll work it's way to us.

  3. Yep, 19 degrees here and more snow expected tomorrow and the day after.

Having your front gate stolen would be most irritating, but I've read of worse.

    1. Hate to tell you, TB, but it was minus 17 yesterday morning here, and we're supposed to get another half foot starting tonight.

  5. We're supposed to getting a storm here this weekend. So it goes. Hope ya'll warmed up some.

On another note, that's a funky looking street you got there. Reminds me of some of the older neighborhoods down in Denver.

    1. It was only -10 this morning, an 'improvement' of sorts, but alas another 4" of snow and still coming down.

The larger house on the corner across the street is on the historical register, as are a couple others on the block. Built around 1920 during the mining heydays. Inside it's amazing, 6 bedrooms, formal dining room and library, and a ballroom on the first floor with a parquet floor.

  7. Y'know if it was me I'd get on the plane to Florida and come back when it's got rid of itself, say in midsummer...... :)

    1. I've been to FL, as well as Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. I like the food, a lot. But when the locals speak I can't understand them, or if I can I don't like what they say. Ditto for Texas. I think I'm a bit of a regional chauvinist, I tend not to like places from east of the continental divide to New York.
      But I appreciate the sentiment.
