I don't know why this year it's getting to me. I went to the store this afternoon, and walking across the parking lot a guy made a cheerful remark to me..."Springtime in Montana, eh?" I forced a smile. It's been snow flurries all weekend, when I went to the truck this afternoon it looked like this:
The grass is green, but not growing. Emily's crocus are up an inch, some trees are budding out. It's been offical spring for a bit, it's just reluctant to commit here. It was 23 degrees when I got up this morning. I believe that global warming, whatever you want to call it, is real. It's just not poked it's head here yet.
So I suppose you've read about the 'teachers pledge' that the unlovely catholic church is making teachers sign around the US in order to work? In some places they are asking the teachers to pledge that they will not support gay marriage, abortion and other things like no sex outside marriage as a condition of employment. 24/7, in any fashion. No going to political rallies for a candidate that supports women's right to choose, no gay friends, no opinions that stray from catholic doctrine.
Isn't it interesting, this at a time when the new pope is giving lip service to a slightly more liberal view of social issues. One wonders just how far the catholic church can go in making themselves irrelevant to life. With the behaviour of priests and bishops that has been well-documented, on wonders how they can do this and keep a straight face. Maybe they don't, maybe they're snickering behind the diocese doors.
Geez, the weather report turned into a rant. Oh well.
I'm afraid even chatting about the weather is a highly charged issue these days. Not a time for marginalizing valuable people if we're going to fix the climate --certainly a rantable issue.
ReplyDeleteIronic that the one 'safe' subject is now right up there in controversy. The 'arguements' I see against the fact of climate change/warming are 1. It's non-existant. 2. It's normal. 3 If it's true, it's not caused by human activity. 4. If it's true, there's nothing we can do about it.
DeleteI don't envy you your weather.
ReplyDeleteIt actually got worse last evening, this morning there's 4" of new snow, looks like winter in most places, and it's currently 19f.
DeleteLike I said, I don't envy you.
DeleteRant away!
ReplyDeleteYou deserve some proper spring weather.
I would be in a rubber room if we still had snow
Were it that I thought it was coming now. We've had snow most years into June, once on the 22nd of June we got 8" of the stuff.
DeleteYeah, I tend to rant more and more as I age, and get pissed about what's kindly referred to as the 'human condition'.
Welcome to my world x
DeleteBeen there for a bit, was eased through the door by the daughters, and found it was a place that made sense.
DeleteA good rant gets my days started right. This morning I couldn't come up with one of my own, so I borrowed yours. It was a good one, so thanks!
ReplyDeletemy rant is your rant, Martha. That's a compliment! take care.
DeleteSad what these educators are being forced to do for a paycheck. If I had to sign for same, I'd be circulating resumes or updating my bonafides toute suite, as they say.
ReplyDeleteI feel for them too....bad economy, and a employeer who doesn't have to comply with standards, because of their 'religious' standards.
DeleteI had to do a search about the new requirements since I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere else. I see it's a diocese in Oakland trying to enforce these ridiculous and discriminatory rule.
ReplyDeleteI signed the petition the students have made available for people who oppose the clause in the new contract.
I'm sure it's no comfort to you but the temperature here today was below freezing.
It's a lot more widespread than that....Ohio, and here in Montana. It appears to me that the catholic admin are doing what's called 'a balloon test' to see how it goes before implementing it nationwide.
DeleteAnd they sneer at the Taliban!! Yes, I think they're snickering as they recount the $70 billion dollars in the Vatican that is never used to compensate the victims of their paedophilia.
ReplyDeleteWeather here is lovely today, cold but sunny. We count our summer in hours :)

We got close to a foot at the house. I thought Sabina was going to punch me in the throat when I simply mentioned; ninety-one sixty, mountains, spring...but what else could I do. Although, having worn shorts and seen hummingbirds-they didn't all freeze-I'm at my I'm over it with snow too.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter's mother's a papist, and considered putting my girl in Catholic school. Given they taught evolution, I wasn't adverse. Interesting they teach that and yet...
It's very irrelevant to me but not to my staunch and traditionalist spouse, who fortunately is on the losing side of history....:)
