Termination Dust

While most of the country is still enjoying summer (or not, perhaps it's too hot) with a month or more to go, we're getting the first hints of what's to come.

Temps for the next 6 days are forecasted to be highs in the 50's, lows in the 30's. Snow in the mountains, rain in the valleys. It's been almost exactly 60 days since our last snowfall in June.

Still, there is plenty of time left for fall fishing, I can see Ann's flowers on her porch from where I write, and the grass is still green. Mother nature just want's to give us a little reminder she's still there.

Hope the rest of the summer is good for all and sundry.

  2. After retirement I got to fish Montana in several times. What an adventure that was....:) Also had to comment on your previous post.

  3. I clicked on that picture and was awestruck when it opened. There are some things worth waiting through a winter to see again. Happy fishing.

  4. That's why I live in Arizona. Beautiful picture though.

  5. That is a striking photograph. The clouds look more like autumn/early winter than late summer.

Here, some of the green has faded amongst the aspens. I've seen one or two yellow leaves. That rust on the tundra I mentioned. You can taste it; summer is waning.

    1. The waning is abrupt this year, and we've had more Aug rain than I can remember.

  6. Stunning photo. Almost makes winter worthwhile.

Also a very thoughtful post on the Fergeson situation. I couldn't agree more.

  7. We've had a couple of weeks or so with cooler weather and rain. But we're back to more typical August heat and humidity. Highs int he 80's and 90's for the next week. Which is fine by me.

    1. I doubt we'll see 80 again this year. I think our high temp this summer was two days of 90 f.

  8. That photo is amazing! I would advise everyone to enlarge it. Wow!

Where I live, the only real difference between summer and winter, is the shorter days. Although it has been pretty warm here lately.

    1. It's supposed to get near freezing tonight here, and I suspect the rain we've been getting for nearly 24 hours is snow a little higher on the mountains.

  9. Stunning landscape. Mountains are beautiful here in California too but what on earth is that blue liquid in the foreground?

    1. That would be the Yellowstone, going through Paradise Valley south of Livingston, east of here.
Yeah, you guys are really dry, wish I could send you some of the rain we've been getting the last couple days.

  10. It's gotten up in the 60's here all week and it has been a long time since I fished those western rivers. Just after Labor Day was my favorite time to go.

  11. Yes, most of the tourists have left by then; another good time is late March and April, before runoff and tourists.
