Lilacs, a few weeks early

The bush out back really outdid itself this year, perhaps it's all the rain the last month versus the usual snow.

The house now smells like my aunt Jessie's house.

The month of May passed without appreciable snow, I don't think any stuck to the ground. Most years the last accumulations are in June. Not this year.

    1. If I knew about that bit of mythology I'd forgotten it. I had to look it up. Maybe it only applies to the white variety.

  2. I miss lilacs. We always had them around the house in North Dakota.

    1. I think they need more moisture than your area provides.

  3. I forgot--my great grandmother's house used to smell like lily of the valley, then lilacs. Other flowers all summer, no doubt, and yeast rolls all winter.

  5. Sabina will be jealous when I tell her. The lilacs haven't bloomed here at ninety-one sixty yet. It's usually mid-June into very early July.

    1. And people think mine are late, blooming in early June. Perhaps yours will be early also?

  6. How lovely!

I don't think I've ever smelled lilacs. They must not like the heat this far south.

    1. Could be so, Jennifer. They are lovely, even if they only bloom for less than 2 weeks.

  7. Those do look very lush. We had lilacs at home. I remember being a kid, being aware they bloomed only a short time, thinking there must be some significance to that, some lesson to be learned that wasn't about baseball.

  8. Wonder if its like here in MN. When the lilacs bloom the morel hunters head out?....:)

  9. It's often earlier than that in MT for morels, Butte has a later lilac bloom than most other places due to altitude....my house is around 6K ft. I've seen morels in the farmers market for a couple weeks already.

  10. The lilacs came into bloom on the weekend my son was born in Toronto. I awoke to find myself surrounded by huge bunches of them brought in by my best friend while I slept. I've loved them ever since.

    Yours are a glorious example.

  11. I love lilacs. I have a big lilac right nest to the steps into my house and it smells wonderful. Of course, they bloomed long ago here.
