Scanning Pictures

I've been scanning some older pictures, and it isn't going as I had hoped. The images are not as sharp as the original pictures. The pictures were taken from 3 to 12 years ago. I have a medium quality scanner, a 6 year old Lexmark.

Any suggestions?

A sample:

The last one is not cropped (nor were the others), and I puzzled over it. Why did the person who took it not include what was on my right??  Then I remembered........I was fishing with my buddy, I'd also taken a supermodel along on the trip, and he was pissed, so he cut her out!!

  1. As much as I hate throwing perfectly good stuff away, the advances in technology in all things computing have made just about everything over 2-3 years old obsolete, I think. I bought a Cannon printer/scanner last year at Wal-Mart for about $100 and it is awesome. Of course my eyes are not nearly as awesome as they were 5 years ago so there's that to consider.

    1. Yeah, you're right. But the thing works, makes copies, scans, as long as it functions I doubt I'll replace it. Hell, I have a tough time throwing out socks that have holes as long as my toes don't stick out.

  2. Did you use a photo editing program? You can add a little to older photos by increasing the contrast, adding a little fill light or shadows.

    1. Only the stuff that's in the MS photo viewing software, I think it can crop, a few other things. I'll leave the more complicated stuff for my kids to do if they want someday.

Old photo's are kind of like scars, they're visible memories, flaws and all.

  3. I digitalized hundreds of Ectachrome slides from long ago. It's true some were quite faded but still it was fun to be able to save them....

  4. He he, also taken a supermodel on the trip....love your humour. I clearly am so bad at photo taking I don't see much wrong with these. I use the photo software on my computer and click on every button possible to improve the quality. It also helps if you have access to Apps that you can download like Camera+ and Snapfish. Just getting in to these.
