Our version of Spring

The end of winter has come early this year, by perhaps a month. The snow is gone from my yard, three months ago there was three feet, now it's brown grass and a couple brave crocus stems peeking up. It hasn't been below zero in over a month.

Yesterday it decided to give us a little reminder that it might be Spring, and that might mean something elsewhere, Father Winter does a layover here (like Atlanta, where every flight to anywhere has a 3 hour stop) before he retreats north.

It snowed most of the day, large flakes that stuck on lawns and cars, but not the streets. I took a drive around five up the hill a half mile.

This is the backside of the "M", or locally as Big Butte. I live down the hill on the other side.

This is facing south, the Highlands Mtns are about 8 miles away.

The snow is already melting as I drink coffee this morning. I doubt very much if this was the last snowfall of the winter/spring. I've seen as much in early June.

  1. Considering the facts that not only are we not native Nova Scotians but we haven't been here that many winters either, it was still an unusually warm winter with little snow. Like you, we got some today along with some cold howling winds. Nature likes to show she's still got it.

    1. Yeah, the question ahead, is will Nature be able, willing or make a judgement to keep us afloat, compensating for all we've done to the planet?

    2. The planet/biosphere is capable of great change not all of which includes us or the other beings who share it with us. It's a great sadness.

  2. We too have been warm. Got a quickie storm today. An inch on the grass. Wondering if we'll get a late season blizzard or it'll just be the smaller storms.

    1. Hey Robbie
Just got the wretched PC cured from the 'streaming movies blues', and don't recommend places that stream them, oldest tells me they are illegal, and they give software virus.
Today it was 76f here.....8th of April.
      End of the world, etc

  3. I would consider a covering of snow every night if it got into the fifties next day. When pigs fly. And not the ones at my feeders.

    1. Ah, you have the same weather, Joanne, just not so long or so early,

  4. I have been in snow storms out west in every month of the year but July and even then I have been in snow on the higher elevations. It was cool this morning in Savannah and felt good--but cool is relative, it was only in the 50s

  5. I've been trying to remember what they call those winter/spring warm spells up there.

  6. RI got the biggest storm of the year on April 3. More snow to come this weekend, supposedly. I don't like to call anyone a liar, but that groundhog is in my imaginary dog house.

  7. I would love a snow storm once a week, if it would turn into water. It's been nothing but mild out here for about a year.
