Cars, Cranes, Ducks and Bears

I took a drive yesterday, out along a nearby back road. A cloudy, blustery day, occasional rain in town, snow on the surrounding mountains.

I got out eventually to the Big Hole valley, and saw these two, probably on a layover on their way to wherever they winter.

And this guy, hope he check his anti-freeze, winter is coming.

The Ducks and Bears? This weekend my ducks flew south to visit their buddy in LA, the UCLA bruins. They were going to go out and toss a football around, but instead went to the beach to watch the sunset.

  1. Ranked maybe tenth. The bears are done. There's hope yet cause I cave up waterfowl hunting several years ago. And yes Gary Larson had to be weird...:)

    1. Hey, your Gophers are looking good this year, going to a bowl if they keep it up.

  2. I drove all over the valley yesterday, looking for autumn. Not quite here yet.
What kind of cranes are those?

    1. Sand Hill cranes, really tall birds, taller than herons.

  3. You live in a beautiful place. My father went to college on the GI Bill in Montana in 1946 when discharged from the Navy. He and his shipmates were 19 and 20 years old mostly from eastern cities. He fell in love with those mountains regardless of the winter temps.

Thanks for the seaside alternate version of the lion and the lamb.

    1. I'm guessing he went to UM in Missoula? What a place it was then.

    1. I've always wanted to live someplace where the seasons were clearly defined. Montana clearly ain't it, nor apparently is Colorado. WTF, we get to watched confused tourists in June snow flurries.

  6. Those cranes are beautiful. We have families of wild turkeys in my neighborhood. Not pretty but funny to watch.

    1. Um, don't hunt, do you? Wild turkeys are much better than the butterball frozen ones.

  7. The cranes are beautiful, as has been noted.

Your Ducks came back from the abyss.

U of A couldn't quite pull out another mindbender over USC and my ASU Sun Devils were idle. Newest ratings put them at 16 and 17.

    1. The PAC has seeming parity I've not seen before.

I'm a grad of UO (undergrad), and followed the football team sort of, even before Dan Fouts QB'd the team. I remember a 4 win season a high time.

I can't classify myself as a 'fan'....it's such a business now they are all more or less the same. I remember when they had their great season, played Auburn in the Nat'l, lost by a couple points, I shrugged. No big tragedy.
