To the new people reading, let's be clear.....

I've noticed some new readers, some from a blog that I read occasionally, commenting seldom. I don't comment on this blog often because most of the time I'm 180 degrees away in opinion.

So....I'm a liberal, capital L. I'd like to amend the 2nd amendment considerably. I oppose all laws limiting abortion. I like government....I like my roads, my water system, I pay my taxes happily.....and I'd wager that before I retired my taxes were more than your entire block. Or row of trailers, if the case.

I think the nra (not in caps on purpose) has perverted their mission from decades ago, and should be taxed like any company representing the gun manufacturers.

I'm a gun owner who would gladly give them up. I think the 'open carry' movement is sponsored by the nra at the manufacturers behest, and the people who support it are at best misguided. I don't think there is a 'bad guy' around every corner, and I don't think I'm going to meet one in K-Mart. Unless it's an open-carry nut.

I'm not religious, not one little bit. I think most of them are perversions of what we should aspire to.

I believe in a good curve ball, the line going out in a tight loop, the fly landing lightly on the water. I believe in the CT scan, the feeling of walking into a rural bar at night, the bartender nodding in recognition. I don't think all the GOP are bat-shit looney, just the ones since Eisenhower.

Just so we know.

    1. This coming from a girl who handed out fortune cookies from a fortune teller cardboard box on halloween, with things like "You're odd, and no one likes you" in return for candy.

  3. Sound ideas, Mike. Yes, like all hicks in my area, I too have a gun --an old 22 with a flashlight taped to the barrel. Haven't had to use it since 1985 when the big rats ran away. Any modification to that senario is quite beyond me and probably involves psychology, strange enthusiasms and other things I don't understand. But if I ever saw a gun carried openly by anyone other than uniformed security in a public place, I'd drop what I was doing and leave --never to return. Yes I'm a Liberal too--one of my sons is became a Republican but I still love him. He has no interest in guns either.

I'm really lucky in that respect, son in laws...mine is firmly on my side of the fence. Unless it's my ducks vs his huskies, but since my team has beaten his for now a decade and more, it's not an issue.

    1. Well, glad you love your kids. And it sounds like your daughter has seen the proverbial light. And who knows, maybe you will too.
But.....you've been warned. You won't see much her you'll like, if you are of the bent of the tea party.
Yes, we should all fish more.

    2. Hey it's your blog and if I don't like it then I don't have to comment, I like what you had to say in this post, and whether I agree with your viewpoint or not I still like what you had to say.

      Let's Go Fishing.

    1. Hey, well thanks. What was it Groucho Marx said? Something about not wanting to be in a club that would have him as a member. I've never had a 'fan' before.....I'd reconsider were I you. Let's just call you an interested onlooker. It's safer.

  10. Birds of a feather and all that. I'd build my nest in the same tree as your any day.

    1. Huh. Ok, well the tree is going to be run like a condo in NYC I heard about. A friend of mine, Keith K. worked for a company I did some work for. Looked like a bodybuilder with a face like a young Tab Hunter. Gay as a trivet. He moved to NYC and wanted to live in a condo run by RuPaul. It was an 8-plex, 7 current residents.
He had to pay a 1K application fee, then interview with each resident. The interview as seeing if they were compatible, and to hand over a envelope to each with 1K inside.
I'm thinking nests might be a little cheaper, but not much. And bring your own worms.

    2. How much cheaper, and where do I sign the lease?

  11. I knew I liked you. Btw, your blog seems to have disappeared from my reader. This is the second time it's happened. The first time, I caught it fairly quickly and added it back in. Wonder if this is a blogger vs wordpress issue or if forces are conspiring for unknown reasons.

  12. Getting caught up with you after a long absence. Fruitful? Who knows, my life goes in unexpected ways at times. For which I am grateful. I stand with you and your beliefs. I just knew that anyway.
