Adios for a bit.

Heading to Seattle tomorrow, back in 2-4 weeks. Hope it isn't too hot  where  you  are, the drive  across tomorrow  should  be miserable.....Spokane temps, half way there, supposed to be 107,  which  I realize  ain't  nothing to Bruce and his AZ  ilk,  but  to a poor boy  from Butte, that's  effing hot.

Today we're heading for the county fair, see what kind of livestock the local kids have been raising.

We see here with a hairdo similar to Russian Ballet  students, but she looks to have gone up a  few inches. Remarkable, considering everything. 

3rd of July

For reasons lost in history, Butte does  the  4th on the  3rd. I've heard various reasons, but  no  idea  which, if  any, are  accurate.

It's  as though every person in town  is given 50 pounds  of  explosives  and sent  to  the  streets. The  town  sounds like a battle zone from  around 8 until 1am.

What you're looking at  is  not the  'main  event', when a  fireworks  show  is  released from  the hill in  the background with the  lit 'M'. This is  just everyone  in  town shooting off their  own fireworks. There are few  or  no  restrictions of size  of  the  fireworks. Anyone can buy M80's, mortars, etc. It's 5 hours  of anarchy.

Don't  worry, it  was the  only bear  in  Montana.  Bring bacon,  it makes a great  breakfast and  you can store  it  in  the  foot of  your sleeping  bag!
