They're cleaned up, sealed with something food safe and they put the main wedding cake on it for presentation.

It's odd for sure, whatever the purpose. I first thought stepping stone sort of things but the others are probably right since I am usually wrong.

I've seen them used for that, but they rot and disintegrate within a year or so, at least in climes like mine.
