I went to HS with Bill, he had a couple pro teams invite him for a tryout. Instead, he joined the Marines. I was in DaNang when I heard of his death.
Thank you for remembering him today. What a short life.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but who are you?
DeleteJust someone who reads your blog now and then. I do not have a blog and I didn't know him personally.
DeleteYou're welcome anytime.
DeleteProbably a good idea to remember a specific someone.
ReplyDelete'Forest for the trees' Or, as Stalin said, and I paraphrase, "1 person killed is a tragedy, 50,000 is a statistic'
DeleteWere you aware of the MIA bracelets we wore, back in the day? I found mine when I moved, several years ago, and the soldier was not killed, and there was a newspaper article featuring his gratitude for that stand we took here at home. I found it again, packing for this move.
ReplyDeleteWe have protested too many wars, in so many ways. It never ends......
I know a few people who still wear them.
DeleteSad.
ReplyDeleteWhole damn thing was, Bruce.
DeleteMy husband lost his best friend in Vietnam at the age of 19...so sad.
ReplyDeleteA lot of us did.
DeleteYou've brought back some memories that, well, never went away.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that it really serves a purpose to re-kindle memories like this, but it somehow seems wrong to just forget people like Bill. He had a great future, if his teen years were an indicator. He died 2 months shy of his 20th birthday.
ReplyDeleteToo young. Way too young.
