I see a bit of Ken Kesey's writing in hers, not sure what she would think about that. I met Kesey twice, and I think he'd be tickled by her stuff. In it's own way, though she's not a 'native' (which we small 'n' natives put far too much importance on...) she captures the voice of Oregon.

Mike, I must second your recommendation. I have followed Murr Brewster's blog for years and have always got a kick out of it. She's a real treasure.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was a teen guiding drift boats on the Rogue, Old Man (Emmett) who lived near Kimble riffle talked about the 'newcomers' who lived downstream a mile from him. They'd built their cabin in 1936.....
DeleteI caught on to Murr's superior thought process (it aligns with mine, so i know it's superior:-), courage, and writing ability a couple of years ago. She's good at hitting the nail on the head.
ReplyDeleteMurr, give thanks that you don't live in Maine. Unless you were born in Maine, even if you lived there all your life but were birthed across the border cuz that's where the nearest hospital was, you aren't a Mainer. Fortunately I live in Arizona where no one was born.
