And a picture she took of the 'supermoon', from her balcony.
Also, a headline from today's SF Chronicle:
Man declared a hero for saving rabbit along Highway 101 from massive wildfire
The article says in part:
"
Apocalyptic images of the Southern California wildfires have taken over social media since the first of the fires broke out Monday night. The Internet celebrated a bright spot amidst all the destruction Thursday.
The video (above) shows a frantic man pulled over along Highway 101 in La Conchita, a small unincorporated community in Ventura County. According to KABC, a news photographer just happened to be driving by Wednesday night and caught the moment on camera.
The man alternates between throwing his hands on his head in disbelief and reaching for something in the flames.
After a long 15 seconds of panicking, he finds what he was looking for. The man picks up a small rabbit and carries it to safety."
Hmmmmm. Well, if it were a video of me, and they'd followed me for a few hours, they might have found:
Had he left the rabbit and returned in 15 minutes, he might have had what you’d have, without the plate. Happy birthday to your daughter.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yeah, wonder if he carried salt in his vehicle....
DeleteWishing your lovely daughter all the best for her coming new year.
ReplyDeleteThe fires in SoCal are terrifying to see on the news. It seems the state has a very long history of dangerous wildfires, but with so many more people living there now the results are catastrophic for everyone - including wildlife.
Yeah, it seems weird that there are so many though. I wonder the reason.
DeleteIn his book Ecology of Fear Mike Davis pointed out that Southern California and LA in particular has always been very prone to wildfires. During the rainy season the growth of chapparal is prodigious and because this is allowed by a state wide policy of fire suppression, the hot dry Santa Ana winds later in the year make devastating fires inevitable.
DeleteYeah, I've read that too. I was rather wondering about the starting of the fires....seems like a hell of a lot of them, though there are plenty of ways for fires to start that are not intentional.
DeleteHappy Birthday to your daughter-that looks like a delicious birthday sushi.
ReplyDeleteThe moon picture is spectacular and about that rabbit-well, yumm!
Rabbit is really good, the French have many ways to prepare it.
DeleteHappy Birthday to her!
ReplyDeleteMy sister lives in La Conchita. They're probably all having rabbit tonight.
Hopefully not on the embers of their house, SoCal is going up in flames it appears.
DeleteHappy birthday to your little one. That was some super moon; it's still waning brightly above my window.
ReplyDeleteMy brothers used to hunt; it's been years since I've had game.
It was impressive, but from her place only visible for a few minutes.
DeleteThe granddaughter is lovely but it looks like her choice of food is as whacky as yours! :D
ReplyDeleteYeah, my daughter likes sushi too, started her on it before she was 6.
DeleteYes we hunters are so merciless. I killed lots of upland game and waterfowl and last year 27 cats, not all feral, doing murder around my bird feeder. And full disclosure reveals my only year of bow hunting for deer reveals either a drastic lack of skill or perhaps a latentcase of hidden "bambi syndrome."...:)
ReplyDeleteNow you have me thinking about a roast duck....and whacking the cats is fine with me.
