More seafood from Da Nang

Not sure how people feel about squid, but I love them.

  1. I love calamari; never had raw squid.

The local Pan-Asian buffets offer fried tentacles and battered bits-and-bobs. I like both, though they are not my favorites.

    Dinner looks good.

  2. Ok, so squid is no one's fav dish....

  3. Not my favorite, but one I certainly enjoy. We've prepared squid at home, but I have not done it as well as I can get from a pro. Still good.

    1. Back in the day, grad school at Cal, I was a good friend of an Italian woman....we ate often together, her specialty was made at home pasta, using semolina , a ragu sauce, maybe with a bit of pork or veal ground, and on top, when it was served, was the crispy tentacles. A delight to see, and weirdly wonderful with the pasta ragu.

    2. Oh, and if you can get the larger squid bodies, cut into 'steaks', cooked properly, quick and seasoned right, can almost pass as abalone, from the old days when you got 6" half inch on a sandwich in the bay area. For 4 bucks.

  4. Not a fan of squid. The few times I've had calamari it was rubbery. It probably wasn't prepared with care.

    1. Nah, it wasn't. Try it at a good seafood place, Tom can probably recommend a place.

  6. I like squid. And octopus. When my kids had friend calamari for the first time in Sint Maarten, they wanted to know why we'd been holding out on them. And I had delicious stuffed octopus in Greece where I broke the never-eat-anything-bigger-than-your-head rule.
