Hypnotic song. Saw her perform it at Hiram Johnson High School Auditorium in 1969 --had comps. Listened, applauded. She knew --"well, maybe next year"-- she knew.
Just listened to it..on . Well, if you are of a certain age, past my current 71, maybe. If one doesn't like the pure voice quality that Collins put into it, maybe. But John, I must disagree. She did a nice version, but more for my father's generation than mine.

ReplyDeletelucky man, Geo. Perhaps she did, but few of us did back then.....the future was ours...remember? How different it is.
DeleteAlways a delight to hear. We were fortunate to see her perform. The voice of an angel.
ReplyDeleteHow did she hold that last note so long? One of my favorite singers. Thank you for posting this lovely reminder.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, Martha. Yes, a lovely voice, and one of 'ours'....
DeleteGlennys Johns did the best version
ReplyDeleteEveryone has their right to their opinion.

DeleteAh Judy Collins and a great song. See, you do have something to thank El Trumpo for.
ReplyDeleteI thank him for nothing, Collins sang that song while he was pulling prep school pranks.
DeleteYep! I've always hated clowns...
ReplyDeleteThey sure are.
ReplyDelete(Triggered memory: I convinced my band director to let us play this as the homecoming court entered the football field.)
Damn, true story? Wow, you were a piece of work (in a good sense).
