It was 78 when it started, dropped to 62 in a few minutes. Maybe a half inch of rain in 20 minutes. The street outside could have supported trout. Wonderful cooling effect, for folk who think anything above 70 is out of line.
While at Cal I lived in Sebastopol, on the south side of town. Our back garden bordered on a Gravenstein apple grove. The costal hills were on the other side of a small valley, and in summer around 2pm the fog would start pouring over the hills, low, looking like a waterfall. The temp would go from 90 to 70 in a matter of minutes.
That drop in temp always feels so good after a hot and humid day. p.s. that picture near rainbow falls is the spot where my future bride said yes...:)
ReplyDeleteGlad I stimulated a memory, Ray. You and your bride are often in my thoughts.
DeleteIt's dropped for the same reason a couple of times today here, too. A crisp 70 degrees at 6:30 p.m.
ReplyDeleteFelt good, eh? It was 50 here this morning, opened all the doors and windows.
DeleteI love it when it rains. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the smell of the rain on the warm foliage, like sage.
DeleteWe had a similar downpour last night, and the temperature will only rise to a modest 80F today.
ReplyDeleteThat's not bad, at least at 6,000 ft where the humidity is usually nil. It's supposed to hit 85 today, but the house is 60 right now.
DeleteA summer mountain rain is an aromatic event. I got a kick out of your line about temps above 70 being out of line. There's a lot of that out here too.

DeleteWhat about those of us who think anything UNDER 70 is out of line? :-)
