On the left, the Rock of Gibraltar, less recognizable from this angle and if one enlarges the picture...Tangiers, Africa 18 miles away. Ah. Would I be there now.....
Once one get's to 70 and beyond, even the less stimulating days are not stagnant. One's never sure if the next boring day is going to be here or not.....
Me neither, but your comment made me imagine the dialogue: "Hey, Marine. Buy me drink?" Neon lights outside flashing onto the main street of dogpatch, Da Nang.
No, didn't go up there with the barbary apes, or monkeys. took a bus to the Spanish border, had a nice lunch, table mates turned out to be the parents of the newly appointed CNO, top man in the Navy.
Tangiers? I'd love to go there. Gibraltar was not impressive to me, except for the Straits, and sailing out to the Atlantic with Africa on the left and Europe on the right. Would have rather be under sail than on a cruise ship, but.......
You look happy in that photo. Obviously before the election!
ReplyDeleteAround a year, as memory serves.
DeleteMy older daughter took a class trip to Spain, with a side trip to Tangiers. We still have the souvenir, an empty Orangina bottle.
ReplyDeleteWow, any other places in Africa you've been?
DeleteThat is why we travel, is it not. The memories can sort of take us there on stagnant days of our lives.

DeleteI still haven't been there for the first time.
ReplyDeleteNice photo! You are a handsome fellow...

Ah yes... Those were the days! NOT....
DeleteWe may need to replace an ancient oriental rug and I recall those large rug and carpet sales stores in Tangiers. Bazaar shopping.
ReplyDeleteWish I'd had the opportunity to go over there.
DeleteGreat shot.Your happy place methinks.

Travel is, yeah. Different peoples, places, customs, how to behave.
DeleteDid you climb The Rock? Apparently it's an amazing place to watch the great bird migrations.

DeleteThat really would be a great place to be for a while.
