I don't know about Halifax, but a minus 12 or so is about the norm for her. A plus 17 for Barrow AK is probably 30 or so degrees above the norm. And, the arctic ice is the thinnest on record. That's the problem I was referring to.
I am of the school of thought that adaptive strategies and to the extent they are possible remedial technologies and responses are where we must deploy our intellect and energy. I'm afraid we are too deep on the curve to prevent or avoid environmental and climate crisis. Indeed the new weather patterns are evidence.
Something in the atmosphere is conserving heat, causing icecaps to melt, crack and calve into the sea. I suspect countries where city dwellers wear face-filters because they have no EPA, no sulfur restrictions on plastics, drywall, etc. In the words of our future president, "It's called business."
Y'know, this is Ayn Rand's world come true, isn't it? Always dismissed it as sophomoric nonsense, but then we got the effing nitwits and outright evils that voted in Trump.
Well,we're getting it now. Day 3 of almost non stop--getting low on gas for the snow blower ! Will write when we're down to the last of the food in the freezer !!
Here in Halifax it's -12F too right now. Yesterday it was -23F. All highly unusual for this coastal city.
ReplyDeleteKeep yourself warm.

DeleteThe pace of melt in the Arctic regions is alarming and Gaia is desperately trying to adjust.
