The town square in Ovando, population maybe 50
Our hotel...we were the only guests. The owners left at 5, we had the hotel to ourselves.
A nearby ranch
The Blackfoot River, the one Norman McLean wrote about in "A River Runs Trough It"
A good trip, except we couldn't see more than a half mile in any direction because of the snow....when we got back to Butte there was 8" new on the sidewalk.
Thanks for taking me there. We are due a heavy one late tomorrow night. Today was spring.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely adore that hotel๐๐

I'll let you know when it gets here. Yeah, the hotel is great.
DeleteYou mean to say even Doc and Miss Kitty left the hotel? I hope the bar was left open for you.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me your friend got a great sampling of early springtime in the mountains.
Yep. If only she had been able to see them. We never had visibility more than a half mile, usually less.
DeleteSounds just like spring in Ohio.
ReplyDeleteJust a little later, like the winters are just a bit earlier. June snows are not uncommon here.
DeleteOne of my favorite books is "A River Runs Through It. I have read it a few times and also watch the movie every time I see if on TV. I took up flyfishing because of it and spent many years standing in the water trying to get that perfect cast.
ReplyDeleteYou are very fortunate to live in a beautiful part of our country.
I remember the year Redford made that movie.....the next summer the rivers were full of people with expensive equipment flailing the water, scaring the fish. Two years later there were some real bargains to be had in slightly used fly rods and equipment.
DeleteAaarrrrrggggghhhhh! Spring in Montana. Looks like spring in North Dakota, where my nephew-in-law spent 24 hours trapped in a semi in a blizzard this week. Aaarrrrrggggghhhhh!
ReplyDeleteYeah, people who are spending their first winter here start asking about now when spring comes......'late May, maybe....' is the answer. Back they go to CA.
DeleteLooks a little tough. The Blackfoot looks like a beautiful river.
ReplyDeleteVery comfy on the inside, beds were queen size and very comfortable. The Blackfoot is a good river, floated it a few times.
DeleteIt's beautiful. I can't believe the owners just left the hotel.
ReplyDeleteThey were a nice couple, about our age. Left us the keys, showed us where the heat controls, coffee, snacks etc were, and off to their home about 4 miles away. He was back plowing the town square at 6:30am.
DeleteWell, it's spring here too and the sand gnats are out... I'd take a little snow except that the tomatoes are already in.
ReplyDeleteOutside tomatoes pretty hard to do here with our 50 day growing season.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a very interesting place no matter the weather...better if it was warmer. Certainly good to put on the bucket list.
ReplyDeleteYou got three months that are possibly without snow...June is one and unsure. July pretty sure, August is good until the last week, but then can shift on ya'.
DeleteThe owners left at 5. Now that's funny.
ReplyDeleteThe only explanation is "It's Montana".
DeleteHappened to us in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, in February. Had the place all to ourselves. Very quiet.
DeleteAh, springtime at last. Birds chirping, trees sprouting leaves, tulips exploding. Snow and ice? What a dirty trick.
